Activating the SDGs

With just eight years left to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 SDGs, accelerating the transition to a global economic model aligned with SDGs is of the essence. So, what’s needed to speed up this transition? What are the roadblocks to accelerating the pace?

The growing turn to data as a means of knowing and governing global problems requires a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral dialogue. This round table event brings together key representatives from international organizations, academia, and civil society to reflect on the practices, challenges, and futures of the Sustainable Development Goal data system.

Applying the MIT Practical Impact Alliance model, members of the Geneva SDG Community mapped the different roles they play vis-à-vis three missions related to enabling SDG implementation: leveraging sustainable finance for the SDGs; enhancing the use of quality data for SDG action; and harnessing the positive potential of digital technology towards SDG impact. The exercise resulted in new, more profound connections among SDG actors and in improved understanding of the different roles they play vis-à-vis the shared mission.

In the lead up to the 2022 Global Goals Week, the SDG Lab is organizing the Annual Meeting of the Geneva SDG Community, on September 15, 14:00-17:00 CET, at UN Geneva. Held in person for the first time since the onset of COVID-19, the meeting represents a unique opportunity to hear from thought leaders on the power of networks to mobilize SDG action.

The third edition of Building Bridges Week (BBW) 2022 - a collaborative effort for advancing sustainable finance in Switzerland and around the globe - will take place from 3-6 October 2022, at the Centre International de Conférences Geneva (CICG), with many sessions available online. This year, BBW will focus on action-oriented discussions on mainstreaming Finance for Nature and Climate; Agriculture, Food and Land Use; Innovation in Sovereign Debt Management; Social Justice and Financial Inclusion and Just transition.
